The front is flat. On the back, a block carries the four triggers: L1 and R1 on the outside, L2 and R2 on the inside.
Just below, a ridged cover gives access to the battery, so you can replace it the day it wears out.

The OTG port stays free.
No USB dongle to plug in: the 2.4 GHz module is inside the console. Depending on the installed system, it fetches box art for the games already on the card, enables RetroAchievements, installs open-source ports via PortMaster, runs the updates on offer and receives files from a computer on the same network.
No online play, no streaming or video apps, no Bluetooth and no 5 GHz network. The connection is set up in the console menu.
Physical controls
D-pad, ABXY, two sticks.
Both clickable.
The D-pad falls under your left thumb, the diamond of ABXY buttons under your right. Both analogue sticks press down like buttons: L3 on the left, R3 on the right.
During a game, the FN button opens the emulator menu. Power and Reset are on the left edge, the volume control on the right edge, and there is a speaker on the front.
Battery life
A replaceable battery.
USB-C charging.
The Li-Po battery is rated at 3000 to 3200 mAh depending on the batch; the exact value is printed under the cover. Battery life depends on brightness, volume, system and game: we don’t give a figure in hours.
Charging goes through the USB-C port marked DC, with a 5 V adapter rated at least 1.5 A. The USB-C cable is included, the mains adapter is not.
Two microSD slots

The TF1-OS slot, on the right edge, holds the preinstalled open-source Linux system. The TF2-GAME slot, on the left edge, takes your games. No internal storage: everything goes through the cards.
The console comes with 64 GB on a microSD card. Usable space after formatting is slightly lower, and the number of games depends on their size.

R36S Plus or R36S: what’s the difference?
Both use a Rockchip RK3326 and 1 GB of RAM: games run the same way on each. The R36S Plus adds built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, where the R36S needs a USB dongle in the OTG port. On the back, a flat block carries the four triggers, with a cover that gives access to the battery.
What can the R36S Plus’s Wi-Fi do?
Depending on the installed system: fetch box art for the games you own, enable RetroAchievements, install open-source ports via PortMaster, run updates and receive files from a computer on the same network. You need a 2.4 GHz network. No online play, no streaming, no video apps and no Bluetooth.
What kinds of games can it emulate?
The RK3326 handles 8-bit and 16-bit consoles well, along with Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance, arcade classics and many PlayStation games. On N64, PSP or Dreamcast, results depend on the game and settings. PS2 is not supported. Only play games you own the rights to.
Can I change the system on the R36S Plus?
It ships with an open-source Linux system and an EmulationStation-style menu. Community firmware exists for this model. The store does not supply it: installing it is at your own risk, after backing up your microSD cards.
Is there a 128 GB version?
Not on sale yet: its availability is still being confirmed with the supplier. The R36S Plus comes with 64 GB on a microSD card. Capacity changes the space available for your games, not performance.
